The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is available with your choice of five powertrains across its trims. The base trim draws 255 horsepower from its four-cylinder turbo engine. The top AMG® GLE 63 S trim receives 603 horsepower from its turbo V8 engine. Most of the GLE’s trims have standard 4MATIC® all-wheel drive. The GLS is also offered with several powertrains. The entry-level option is a 362-horsepower, turbo 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engine. The top trim has a 603-horsepower V8 engine. In both models, the top trims are outfitted with enhanced brakes, an adaptive air suspension system, an electronic limited-slip differential, and other gear.
Appearance
The GLE and the GLS share classic elements of Mercedes-Benz’s design language. For example, they both have a tall, bold grille designed with vertical bars. The GLE’s grille is slightly smaller, and the headlights have a pair of hooked ribbons of LED light. The sides are underscored by a chrome accent, and a crisp, horizontal definition line runs through them. Roof rails and a tapered rear complete the look. The GLS is a larger model with prominent, LED-topped headlights. It has raised roof rails and a chrome accent on the lower door panels. However, it has a flatter, longer roof and angled, smooth contouring through the sides.
Features
The GLE is available with an optional third row, and the GLS’s third row is standard. Both models offer a sunroof, a hands-free power liftgate, leather material, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s panel, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting, USB ports, assistive safety tech, a surround-view camera, a powerful sound system, and more. The GLS also offers soft-close doors, illuminated running boards, a five-zone climate control system, heated and cooled cupholders, a fragrance system, and other items.
